Membership in the Buffalo Niagara Youth Chorus is a privilege and requires a commitment to faithful, consistent and punctual attendance. It is expected that rehearsals take a very high priority in each child's life. Each child is holding a valuable place in his/her choir. All rehearsals are mandatory unless otherwise indicated on the chorus calendar.
In order to be excused from any rehearsal, the Attendance Coordinator for the Chorus must be notified by 12:00 noon on the day of the rehearsal. Failure to notify the Attendance Coordinator of an absence will count as an unexcused absence. Parents must also submit a written excuse for each tardiness or early dismissal. In case of a planned absence, notice as far in advance as possible is appreciated. A pre-arranged absence form is available in the back of this handbook or additional copies are available from the Coordinator.
An absence for any reason from the dress rehearsal before a performance on the chorus calendar will normally result in the singer being excluded from the respective concert. (If a dress rehearsal has been missed, singers should not arrive at the concert expecting to perform unless prior arrangements with the director have been made).
The BNYC religious holiday policy is as follows: Any singer needing to request an absence from rehearsal because of a major religious holiday shall not have the absence counted against them; however, the Attendance Coordinator must be notified in advance of the holiday.
If no contact has been made with the Attendance Coordinator prior to an absence, it will be considered unexcused. Attendance and punctuality that do not demonstrate commitment to the chorus may result in the singer being moved to another choir for the remainder of the semester, or being removed from the Chorus permanently.
Cancellation Notification. If a BNYC rehearsal is cancelled due to inclement weather or for an unusual reason, a notice will be placed on WGR 550, WBEN 930 and Channels 2 and 7, if they are running closings.
